Jerry Brown Must Save Net Neutrality and Sign SB 822

The Golden State is on the verge of setting the gold standard when it comes to the protection of communities of color online. But now it's on Jerry Brown to bring it across the finish line.

If signed by Brown, California bill SB 822 will deliver the strongest and most comprehensive Net Neutrality protections in the country - including preventing companies like AT&T from discriminatory versions of zero-rating.

Nationally, California has led the way in its opposition to Trump and the inhumane policies of his administration. And after the original version of SB 822 was gutted in a committee hearing - in a move to appease corporations like AT&T - communities of color in the state led a massive public outcry demanding a restoration of strict rules defending a free and open internet. The passing of a bill with those crucial protections restored represents a win for vulnerable communities in the state who rely on net neutrality to make their voices heard worldwide.

From the outcry over the "Muslim Ban" to the fight against family separations at the border, these communities are actively using the open internet to organize resistance to the rising authoritarianism of The White House. Gov. Brown now has the chance to reaffirm California's position as a beacon of sanctuary, online and off, by rejecting the FCC's repeal and preserving Net Neutrality in our state.
